OUR STORY

A decade in the making.

From a Newcastle kitchen to doorsteps across the UK — this is how Roberts Gourmet Pies came to be.

WHERE IT BEGAN

Newcastle heart, Aberdeen roots.

I was born and raised in Newcastle - it's home, and it always has been. But our family story reaches back to Aberdeen, where, as the tale goes, the Roberts family once kept a bakery.

Nobody's kept a perfect record of it. The details have softened over the years, the way family stories do.

But the belief has always been there: that somewhere back along the line, making good food for people was simply what we did. I like to think these pies are a continuation of that - the same instinct, generations later.

The pies themselves began with a simple problem. I couldn't find a Scotch pie worth eating. Mass-produced, under-filled, forgettable.

I knew what a proper one should taste like - so I stopped looking, and started making. That was the beginning.

THE CRAFT

A decade of perfecting

I spent years refining every recipe - not tweaking a formula, but genuinely understanding what makes a pie worthy of the name. The depth of the filling. The texture of the pastry. The quality of every ingredient inside.

The pastry is prepared using either a hot water crust or a shortcrust, depending on the pie. The fillings are made using quality ingredients I source with care - properly prepared and cooked low and slow in-house until exactly right.

Everything is hand-crimped and made from scratch. No additives. No shortcuts hidden in a long ingredients list.

Quality ingredients

Every filling is made from carefully sourced, quality ingredients. Properly prepared, never rushed.

Hand-crimped pastry

Every pie is hand-finished. You can taste the difference. Hot water crust or shortcrust, depending on the recipe.

No additives

Real ingredients. Nothing artificial. The way food has always been made when it’s made properly.

THE NEWCASTLE CHAPTER

The markets told me something

When I started selling at the local markets in Newcastle, something became clear. There's a culture here of proper food — people who know the difference and expect it. They responded, and kept coming back. That told me everything.
